Bowness Community Garden started in 2008 in an unused residential lot in the NW urban neighborhood of Calgary called Bowness. It was an idea that Awaken,a new neighborhood-oriented church plant, felt could help build relationships into the neighborhood all the while inviting others into God's desires for creation care and environmental sustainability. The Banff Trail Community Garden was established in 2010 and has been a great place for community members to grow fresh vegetables, get to know community members of all ages, and contribute to creating a beautiful space to be enjoyed by all. The Capitol Hill Community Edible Garden is a grass roots, community initiative with a goal of connecting people in the neighbourhood by growing food, flowers, and herbs together on the grounds of the Capitol Hill Community Centre. Built in June of 2014, the garden consists of 27 raised garden beds that are available for residents of Capitol Hill to rent out for the growing season. The mandate for the CCA gardens is for the following: a meeting place, a learning place for all, provide extra food for the hall or community at large, and renting raised beds for those wanting to plant seeds of any nature. Members are asked to help assist in weeding and cleaning around the hall and all beds in and out of the rental area.
