About Us

Who are we?
We are a volunteer organization of scientists, planners, engineers, landscape architects and ecologists working to create greener, healthier cities and to keep our waterways clean. We do original research to bring you the best solutions for Alberta's context, so our advice is locally proven. We work in policy, planning, feasibility, demonstration, and education. Our vision is for land development and landscapes to be in harmony. Some people call it green infrastructure, some talk about nature-based solutions. Whatever the name, we're enthusiastic for integrated solutions that will take us to a sustainable future.

We care about helping you create a landscape at home that is resilient to flood, drought, a changing climate, and that promotes health and wellness for you, the environment, and your pocketbook.

The best place to quickly see some resources and inspiration is on our YouTube channel  We are pretty new at the homeowner-focused side of things, so we don't have a slick package yet, but we have some pieces of the puzzle. We have created the "Alberta Clean Runoff Action Guide" that is currently available through the Pigeon Lake Watershed Association. It's 100 pages of free advice including:
  • landscaping
  • rainwater harvesting
  • rain gardens
  • trenches and soakaways
  • permeable pavement
  • green roofs
  • erosion and sediment control for construction projects
  • evaluating your site to reduce runoff
