The Erlton Community Garden was established in 2021 by volunteers of the Erlton Community Association (ECA). This venture would not have been possible without generous donations of time, advice, funds and materials from the City of Calgary, Possible Garden, Hands on Growing and the Calgary Horticultural Society, in addition to the support of the community. We are especially thankful to Anthem Properties for leasing this undeveloped land to us.
Our garden is located in the inner city bordering Lindsay Park and contains 50 garden plots of various sizes. Not only do we serve the Erlton community, but we also welcome gardeners from the neighbouring communities of Victoria Park, Cliff-Bungalow Mission and the Beltline.
To us, gardening supports a sense of community which is especially important in multi-unit residences of which there are many. The Erlton Community Garden has hosted several events including bonfire socials. Stampede fireworks get togethers, a farmer's market, etc. and fundraisers such as Electronics Recycling, Christmas Tree sales and Stampede Parking.
Since our current garden location is temporary, Parks Foundation has awarded us a grant to obtain a professionally rendered design for our new location in Erlton Park. Hopefully, with sufficient funds and corporate sponsorship, we will begin construction in 2025.
