Bowness Community Garden started in 2008 in an unused residential lot in the NW urban neighborhood of Calgary called Bowness. It was an idea that Awaken,a new neighborhood-oriented church plant, felt could help build relationships into the neighborhood all the while inviting others into God's desires for creation care and environmental sustainability. The Bankview Community Garden is in Upper Buckmaster Park near 23rd Avenue and 16th Street SW. It was created in 2011 to be a peaceful and productive space where neighbours can meet, relax and grow food for themselves. This community garden at the Southwood Library was started in 2012 and has had many successful seasons.The garden is well supported by countless community volunteers. The gardeners share with "Garden Angel" duties which includes daily watering of community beds, library beds, and helping those on vacation. The High River Garden Society is the governing body for 2 gardens: McLaughlin Meadows and Riverside Community Gardens. These gardens are on public land owned by the Town of High River. There is a Community Garden License Agreement between the Town of High River and the High River Garden Society.The location pin on the map is not the exact location of the gardens. Our wonderful garden is located at the Hall – 2828 28th St SW. Every year, we ask the community who wants to be involved. KGCA members pay a fee per plot and then enjoy the challenge of growing their own fruits, veggies and herbs. Recently our garden has been growing even more thanks to ATB Agriculture. Their help in grants over the past 3 years has allowed us to create 4 new cedar plots on 28th Ave – meaning even more residents can get involved. Updated July 2020.

The Lake Bonavista Community Association Field Garden is a grass roots community garden development built in 2019 with 27 full sized rentable beds. Their goal is to encourage community wellness thru the growing of organic vegetables and to improve the shared quality of life in our community. Garden beds may be rented by anyone, and we are one of only a few gardens in Calgary with no residency requirements – members simply provide their rental fee and at least 15 volunteer hours working on common areas. There are more than 20 fruit trees including apple and sour cherry and fruit shrubs including Nanking cherry and saskatoon.
