Bowness Community Garden started in 2008 in an unused residential lot in the NW urban neighborhood of Calgary called Bowness. It was an idea that Awaken,a new neighborhood-oriented church plant, felt could help build relationships into the neighborhood all the while inviting others into God's desires for creation care and environmental sustainability. Our wonderful garden is located at the Hall – 2828 28th St SW. Every year, we ask the community who wants to be involved. KGCA members pay a fee per plot and then enjoy the challenge of growing their own fruits, veggies and herbs. Recently our garden has been growing even more thanks to ATB Agriculture. The Lake Bonavista Community Association Field Garden is a grass roots community garden development built in 2019 with 27 full sized rentable beds. Their goal is to encourage community wellness thru the growing of organic vegetables and to improve the shared quality of life in our community. Garden beds may be rented by anyone, and we are one of only a few gardens in Calgary with no residency requirements – members simply provide their rental fee and at least 15 volunteer hours working on common areas. There are more than 20 fruit trees including apple and sour cherry and fruit shrubs including Nanking cherry and saskatoon.
