The Varsity Community Garden (VCG) is a volunteer-managed community garden that promotes sustainable gardening practices, innovative garden-based learning, and environmental conservation. The St. Barnabas garden was founded in 2011 with the intention of sharing our south facing land with others in the community, instead of nurturing expensive and environmentally unfriendly lawns. The area has an ideal micro climate for vegetable growing and, with the help of a grant from a generous parishioner, 18 raised beds were built. The community garden project was initiated in November 2009 by a handful of community volunteers. A Scenic Acres survey in 2016 indicated that residents would like to have a community garden but it took until 2021 for a dedicated volunteer to bring this garden to fruition.
