We are a vibrant community garden located in the friendly neighbourhood of Southwood, Calgary. Our mission is to bring together our diverse community, demonstrate techniques of sustainable urban food production, and inspire positive action. Our garden membership is made up of a number of familes in Montgomery. It is communally maintained, and we all share in the harvest—we do not have individual plots. The garden is in a fenced 100x70 ft area. We organize regular work bees so members can socialize and learn from each other. We try to plan at least one larger garden event during the season. The Inglewood Community Garden has been active in the historic community of Inglewood since 2003. We believe that it is the largest (contiguous) community garden in Calgary and it also hosts a Communal Garden, which is (we believe) the largest in-ground solely volunteer managed vegetable garden in the city dedicated to providing produce to local service organizations and garden volunteers. Garden beds may be rented by anyone, and we are one of only a few gardens in Calgary with no residency requirements – members simply provide their rental fee and at least 15 volunteer hours working on common areas. There are more than 20 fruit trees including apple and sour cherry and fruit shrubs including Nanking cherry and saskatoon. The garden provides us with opportunities to connect with other gardeners and horticulturalists from our community and beyond. We have an annual meeting and work bees. Updated Feb 2025.

The Rainbow Garden was started in 2023 by a food literacy educator and mom of a transgender youth as a way of connecting transgender and gender-diverse kids back to food, and back to the Earth. Since then, the Garden is now an official society, and has expanded to provide gardening opportunity and food literacy education to anyone in the 2SLGBTQIA community in Calgary. The Erlton Community Garden was established in 2021 by volunteers of the Erlton Community Association (ECA). This venture would not have been possible without generous donations of time, advice, funds and materials from the City of Calgary, Possible Garden, Hands on Growing and the Calgary Horticultural Society, in addition to the support of the community.
